ISOBEL CAMPBELL AND MARK LANEGAN - OPENING NIGHT CONCERT

Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan, the most electrifying, magnetic and sensuous duo of the last decade will give their first and only concert in Poland on November 29th. The performance will provide a musical setting for the opening of the 16th Plus Camerimage Festival in Łódź.
Mark Lanegan and Isobel Campbell
These two artists contrast so sharply that their gender difference seems trifle. She: a Scottish singer and cellist with a soft voice halfway to a murmur. Once a member of Belle & Sebastian, noted for intelligent songs for sensitive hearts. He: a Californian, former singer of the grunge legend, Screaming Trees, an occasional member of Queens Of The Stone Age, tattooed, sombre, dark-souled, or at least seemingly so. His incredible, hypnotic timbre makes the list of those who want to collaborate with him on their albums and those who have had the opportunity to work with him truly impressive.
Isobel came up with an idea. After one of Lanegan’s band concerts in Glasgow she suggested they record an album together. He agreed and came back to Los Angeles. Campbell stayed home and wrote songs, constantly thinking how he would interpret them. When she finally had the chance to listen to the first sample, she almost fell from the stairs. The duo have chalked up two splendid albums: Ballad Of Broken Seas (2006) and Sunday At Devil Dirt that was released this spring. Both of them have won raves from critics and world audience that has celebrated their folkish tunes with roots in country western music, but also incorporating other genres.
The best example is the track Come On Baby Turn Me On, which many critics would like to hear on the soundtrack to the next Bond movie. Campbell and Lanegan continue the tradition of unique duos. Before there were Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood as well as Serge Gainsbourg and Jean Birkin. The concert at the Arthur Rubinstein Łódź Philharmonic Concert Hall will be one of the biggest musical events of this autumn.
