PIERRE LHOMME REVIEW

French director of photography Pierre Lhomme will be granted the Lifetime Achievement Award, which is annually presented to outstanding cinematographers whose body of work has greatly contributed to the art of motion picture. The organisers of Plus Camerimage Film Festival have also prepared a special publication as a tribute to this great artist - a book about his life and work.

ARMY OF SHADOWS (L'Armee des ombres)

France, 1942, during the German occupation. Philippe Gerbier, a civil engineer, is one of the French Resistance’s chiefs. Given away by a traitor, he is interned in a camp. He manages to escape, and joins his network at Marseilles, where he makes the traitor be executed. The film shows intrepid underground fighters who must face their own brand of honor and shadowy ethical codes. Both novelist Joseph Kessel as well as director Jean-Pierre Melville belonged to this “Army of the Shadows".

A biographical history of director Rene Féret’s own family. Aline is the most beautiful girl in Auchy-les-Mines, a small village in northern France. There, she meets a butter seller, Pierre, and decides to marry him. In a reversal of roles, she is the one who proposes to him, and she also engineers a false pregnancy to persuade her parents to okay the match. They could have been happy but fate had other plans in store for them...
CYRANO DE BERGERAC

The film version of Edmond Rostand’s heroicomic play about a sword-wielding poet equipped with a massive nose and a heart to match. Because of his physical flaw, he is so timid that he must lend his words of love to a rival man to woo the woman he yearns for.
KING OF HEARTS (Le Roi de coeur)

The adventures of an amiable Scot who, during the last days of the WWI fighting, is sent into a little French village to find and dismantle a giant booby trap left behind by the Germans. By the time the Scot arrives, the citizens have fled, leaving the village in the custody of the inmates of the local asylum.
A MATTER OF RESISTANCE (La Vie de château)

The year is 1944. Near Normandy’s shores, Jerome, an indolent, world-weary lord and Marie, his ravishing but bored wife, live in a ramshackle chateau. Unexpectedly, their world is thrown topsy-turvy when a German outfit bivouacs themselves in their estate. Now Marie finds herself being pursued by both the German commanding officer and a French paratrooper, covertly working to plan the D-Day attacks.
THE SAVAGE (Le Sauvage)

Caracas, Venezuela. Just after her engagement with Vittorio, Nelly runs away from him. As he pursued her, she looks for help to Martin, a French middle-aged man she met by accident. He helps her to escape and drives her to the airport and gives her a plane ticket to Paris. Then he thinks he can go back to his peaceful lonely life on his island. Of course, he is wrong and will be bothered again by Nelly...
MY MAN (Mon homme)

A disconcertingly happy hooker, Marie, plies her trade in a Parisian passageway, where she revels in her spidery power to seduce and satisfy any passing male. One night, she encounters Jeannot, a street wino, sleeping in the garbage. She offers him shelter, not knowing that he is about to unleash in her a passion so consuming that it will change their lives forever.
