Owing to his extraordinary fortitude and the support of his fellow inmate, he manages to persevere and pluck the courage to take the “midnight express" (jailhouse slang for escape).
FAME
cin. Michael Seresin

PINK FLOYD THE WALL
cin. Peter Biziou
UK; 1982; 95 min.
Based on Pink Floyd’s successful album, and highly autobiographical of Floyd co-founder Roger Waters, a cinematic account of the psychic turmoil faced by fictional rock star Pink. His haunting memories combine in a disturbing mix of episodic live action and surreal animation.
BIRDY
cin. Michael Seresin
USA; 1984; 120 min.
The title character is a Vietnam vet hospitalized for postwar trauma. Lying in a state of catatonic stupor, Birdy regresses into belief that he is a bird, an animal that has obsessed him since childhood. After his psychiatrist’s efforts fail to cure him, his childhood friend Al Columbato is brought in to try to coax Birdy out of his hallucinations.

cin. Peter Biziou
USA; 1988; 128 min.

Solving the case will require not only overcoming the hostility of the local authorities and the black community but contending with their own differences as well.
COME SEE THE PARADISE
cin. Michael Seresin
US; 1990; 138 min.
An interracial romance set against the backdrop of World War II and the internment of Asian-Americans in relocation camps. One of the few American films to deal with the inglorious episode in American history.
THE COMMITMENTS
cin. Gale Tattersall
Ireland, UK, USA; 1991; 118 min.
In the hope of bringing soul music to Dublin, Jimmy Rabbitte forms a band of motley musicians on his inspirational logic: “The Irish are the blacks of Europe. Dubliners are the blacks of the Ireland. North Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin." Despite a nationwide success, the group’s situation grows bittersweet as they are torn apart by rivalries off-stage.
EVITA
cin. Darius Khondji
USA; 1996; 134 min.
A film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s popular Broadway musical portraying the life of Eva Peron. With her move to Buenos Aires at the age of 15, she begins her gradual rise from a dance-hall girl and presumed prostitute to the hypnotically powerful first lady of Argentina. Initially distrustful of her, millions of Argentinians came to respect and adore Peron for her intensive social action, while others perceived her as a populist facade for a fascist dictatorship.

The film version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir of Frank McCourt, who was born amid the squalor of Depression-era Brooklyn and raised in the slums of Limerick, Ireland.
