this year’s award was granted to the marvellous Hungarian director, creator of Sunshine, Meeting Venus, Mephisto or Colonel Redl among others - ISTVAN SZÁBÓ. In 2000 the same award was granted to WIM WENDERS who collected it during Camerimage 2006 Closing Ceremony.
SPECIAL AWARD TO THE POLISH CINEMATOGRAPHER FOR IMMENSE CONTRIBUTION TO THE ART OF FILM:
Camerimage Festival organizers awarded the most highly valued Polish cinematographer, ANDRZEJ BARTKOWIAK, who is a member of American Society of Cinematographers and works permanently in Hollywood. He was a long-time collaborator of director Sidney Lumet, and their The Verdict was an Oscar nominee. During this collaboration, Bartkowiak established his reputation both for urban compositions and indoor shoots. He is also the author of cinematography to such famous films as Terms of Endearment, Speed, The Devil’s Advocate and Thirteen Days.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD TO THE PRODUCTION DESIGNER WITH UNIQUE VISUAL SENSITIVITY:
during last edition of the Festival, there were many discussions concerning the participation of other filmmakers (beside the cinematographers) in a process of the film image creation. As it was pointed out, it is a production designer who contributes the most to the cinematographer’s success. CAMERIMAGE organizers plan to grant the most outstanding production designers with the special award starting from this year’s edition of the Festival. This year’s Laureate of the Award is DANTE FERRETTI. He is a production designer with such film credits as: La Citta Delle Donne, The Name of the Rose, The Age of Innocence, The Gangs of New York, The Aviator and The Black Dahlia among others. Within the period of 40 years of his career he collaborated with such directors as Pier Paolo Pasolini, Federico Fellini, Jean-Jacques Annaud, Martin Scorsese and Brian De Palma.
AWARD TO THE PRODUCTION DESIGNER WITH SPECIAL VISUAL SENSITIVITY:
second award to production designer will be granted to younger colleague of Dante Ferretti, JOHN MYHRE, who is an author of set design to Anna Karenina, Chicago and Memoirs of Geisha. He received Oscars for his work on the latter two films.
SPECIAL AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CINEMATOGRAPHY ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE FIELD OF MUSIC CLIPS AND VIDEOS AND ADVERTISING SPOTS:
the award to the outstanding author of cinematography to short forms of motion picture - DANIEL PEARL - who has gained recognition as director of photography to video clips of such music stars as Madonna, Guns N’ Roses, George Michael, Metallica, U2 and Michael Jackson, as well as to advertising spots and feature films.
SPECIAL AWARD FOR INNOVATIVE ACHIEVEMENTS IN MOTION PICTURE:
the award was granted to DAVID SAMUELSON, who received Oscar twice - both for engineering and developing the Louma Camera Crane and remote system for motion picture production (those awards shared with Jean-Marie Lavalou and Alain Masseron). Samuelson was the person who conceived the hand-wheeled electronic remote control camera head that made practical all the demountable camera cranes and stand-alone camera mounts that now proliferate in all forms of film and television. The Louma pioneered a remotely-operated camera head combined with a lightweight and portable modular crane. Its design has proved to be the inspiration for numerous subsequent remote camera systems.

Their adventure began in 1960s, when Nykvist exchanged his elder collegue, Gunnar Fischer, Bergman first collaborator. The review of their greatest achievements was organized in the memory of Sven Nykvist, the Festival’s mentor, whose idea of creation constituted CAMERIMAGE spiritus movens. It was 1993 when Sven Nykvist agreed to be the honorary guest of the first CAMERIMAGE Festival.
